Janet
Browning
A certified personal trainer with International Fitness Professionals Association (IFPA) since 2004, Janet believes that a positive attitude and encouraging success are extremely important to each client relationship. Her goal is to see that the client walks away feeling confident and successful with each given workout. "I take a holistic approach to developing exercise programs, so that we begin with my having a better understanding about the client’s health and fitness goals. I want to know about my client’s health, lifestyle, and eating habits, past fitness experiences, injuries…you name it! I then take this information and develop an individualized health and fitness plan that is focused on achieving long-term success. "The most important part of a client/trainer relationship is communication. It is very important to understand what a client wants and needs, then tailor the training to best meet those goals. I try to always be honest and positive about realistic results, and approach them with a positive and fun attitude. "It's also important to find the fine line where they are comfortable, but still being challenged. Our bodies and minds can become complacent; therefore it is important to keep things interesting and challenge the individual gradually. It's not always easy to stick to the planned training if the client isn’t feeling strong enough on that day. But I like to challenge them, from whatever place they are at on any given day” "The most critical thing that impacts the clients success is to remember the fun is in the process of getting to that goal. Staying involved with the exercise regime, keeping a positive attitude and showing up get easier with each day. "I like to give suggestions about clean, healthy choices for eating that will improve the clients energy and help them through the workout. I make it abundantly clear that we can do as much as possible to change things in the hours we have in the fitness center, but it is even more important to take charge of eating and exercising the other 23 hours of the day. I also remind clients that no one is perfect. We ALL have difficulties making good eating and exercise choices! The best way to impact success is to believe we can make these changes and continue having a positive attitude. "I know my clients are succeeding when they are motivated, positive and encouraged to keep up their exercise programs. I listen for comments about what they did the rest of the week. How they exercised, ate, slept, and so on. Inevitably, these things improve as their bodies become fit. If they are reaching their desired goals at a slow and steady progression, they are succeeding!"
